Spominu Dušana Poženela
Born of rocky Kras
the nation's love has nourished you
in Bazovici during those times
people of ours sheltered you.
Hard times had dimmed your image
yet grown were your youthful wings.
The storm passed over the Kras
but our fighters' spirits it did not break.
To the north towards us you went
to seek a loaf in the deep mine shaft
and again endured, brother to brother
nor could you dampen your stubborn spirit.
On our beautiful land
foreign hordes ravaged and sowed ruin
plundering its essence.
Then as an eagle from the rocky peaks
you unfurled your proud wings
in defense of our native valleys
whose embrace filled them with safety.
Beneath you, a cohort of zealous fighters grew
who rose from poverty's depths
guidance led them on their way.
A fiery dawn in that mountain range
shone its beam upon you
quenching the smoldering ember—
the eagle's wings broke.«
