    »On the day of the awakening of the Slovene nation and within the framework of the municipal celebration of Domžale, ZB Blagovica, under the patronage of the municipal association ZZB NOV Domžale, unveiled a memorial plaque for the father Baloh in Dolinah near Trojanah.

This was a modest, yet solemn ceremony, which left a deep impression on the witness, who was present. The president of the municipal association ZZB NOV Domžale, Alfonz Avbelj-Savo, and the secretary ZZB NOV Izlake, in their speeches, vividly described the tragic event of 18 May 1944, when the Baloh couple from Dolinah near Trojanah lost their lives under German gunfire. Today, in the midst of intoxicatingly smoky forests, their little house still stands. It is now a guesthouse, run by their son and family.

    Both were from Tuhinjska dolina: the father, Franc, was from Upper Tuhinja, and the mother, Frančiška, from Špitalič. They had lived only six years in their home in Dolinah, where they had five children. They had built their home, which became their refuge during the Second World War. They knew where their town was, and their home provided shelter and comprehensive support to the first activists and partisans.

    The father of Franc was already arrested in 1942 in Borl near Ptujska Gora. At that time, he had returned home, where more work awaited him. But he was arrested again in Kamnik. Javka, however, continued her activities—mother of Franc took care of the children and the fighters. When the father returned from prison, they continued their work with even greater determination until the fateful day.

    Father Franc himself carried the mail down to the valley, so that it would arrive in time in our hands. He handed it over and returned home. But he never returned. The Germans and partisans captured him. Since it was not the right time to return, the mother became worried. She sent her son against him. He did not return. Not the first son, not the second, nor the daughter. The Germans and partisans, with loaded rifles, surprised them in their grief for the husband and children. They shouted at her, demanding to know where the husband was and where the partisans were.

    This was that terrible day when a vile crime took place in Orehovica, where the Germans burned fifteen innocent people in their homes. The mother, overwhelmed and exhausted, was taken away, without stopping to take the small children, who were still at home. They took her to the kindergarten in Izlakah, where she saw her husband and herself—activists, now victims of torture. The last look of concerned parents and aware Slovenes was frozen at the kindergarten, where they were shot on 18 May 1944 after inhuman torture, their home destroyed, and their children wounded. After that, the old mother took care of everyone, except for Ivan, who was also arrested.

    At the unveiling of the memorial plaque for the Balohs, the local committee ZB NOV Blagovnica organized a cultural event with recitations and songs, performed by a choir under the direction of Staneta Habeta. To conclude, Mojca Avbelj read verses that Ana Celestina from Zavrha near Trojanah had written that morning during the rural duties. They were not known to be artistic, but they came from the heart and vividly portrayed the terrible day for the Balohs—18 May 1944.

    All who participated in the memorial ceremony in Dolinah remained for a long time in friendly conversation over a shared meal.
