»BENJAMIN KARTUŠ

was born on 24th February 1926 in France as the son of miner Anton and Marija, born Kozorog. In France, where his father was a miner at that time, he lived until the age of six. In 1932, he returned with his parents to Yugoslavia.
He began attending school in the 1932/33 academic year at Senov and completed seven grades, as well as three grades of the town school. He then learned trade skills. In June 1944, he was forcibly mobilized into the German army, where he stayed only five weeks. He escaped and on 3rd August 1944 voluntarily joined the Kozjanski odred and was assigned as a fighter to the II. battalion of the Kozjanski odred. He was active and very combative. On 10th December 1944, he fell in battles with the Germans on Pokojni vrh – Zabukovje near Sevnica, where he was also buried. He fell as a machine gunner and held the rank of leader.
