Emile-Bethouart-Steg Innsbruck

General Marie Émile Antoine Béthouart relieved as commander of the First French Army Corps in Vorarlberg in May 1945. On July 10, he was appointed commander in the French zone of Austria, and ultimately served as French High Commissioner until 1950. On October 22, 1998, following an initiative by the honorary consul of France Ivo Greiter, the Innsbrucker Gemeinderat decided to name the Innsteg (a bridge connecting the city districts of St. Nikolaus and Saggen) after General Béthouart due to his conciliatory attitude towards Tyrol and the shooting sports community post-war. On June 10, 2003, a large festive ceremony was held for the inauguration of the Béthouart-Steg.

In March 2024, on the initiative of the Jean Dupuy Gymnasium in Tarbes, southern France, a metal plaque was installed on the north side of the Béthouart-Steg. It bears the French translation of the information panel located on the opposite bank of the Inn, which had been affixed at the inauguration of the Béthouart-Steg in 1998. Consequently, the information panel was repositioned to correspond with its French-language counterpart on the other side of the Inn.
