In memory of all the victims of the Mauthausen concentration camp, an international memorial in the form of a cenotaph was erected on the former roll call square and presented to the public on 2.5.1949. The artistic design was carried out by the Federal Memorial Office in Vienna and the architect Dittmann. It is the first memorial that was permanently installed on the site of the former concentration camp.
