Memorial plaque for Guido Zernatto at the Parish Church Treffen/Trebinja

At the southern church wall of the parish church of Treffen, directly beneath the sundial, there is a memorial plaque for Guido Zernatto, born in Treffen in 1903, and his poem "Die Sonnenuhr" published by him in 1933. The politician and writer was active during Austrofascism for the Heimwehr and as a federal cultural councilor and state secretary for the Fatherland's Front, and had to flee from the National Socialists in 1938. He reached the United States after several stops, where he died at the age of 39 in 1943. His poems written in New York exile testify to homesickness and inner turmoil.
