Festsaal im Diözesanhaus Klagenfurt/Celovec named after Anton Granig

In the Diocesan House in Klagenfurt, seven rooms were named after people who were murdered by the National Socialists due to their Christian beliefs in 2014. A plaque with the biography of the person after whom the room is named is attached in front of the rooms. The grand hall in the Diocesan House is named «Anton Granig». Anton Granig was born in 1901 in Großkirchheim im Mölltal, and was ordained a priest in 1932. During the National Socialist era, he was one of the key figures of the 1942 founded resistance movement «Antifaschistische Freiheitsbewegung Österreich». In the middle of 1943, this movement was uncovered and Anton Granig was arrested. In a trial before the People's Court, he was sentenced to death and was shot together with 43 other people in the prison Stein an der Donau in Lower Austria on 15 April 1945.
