Memorial for the Victims of the Labor Education Camp Reichenau Innsbruck

In the Gestapo's labor education camp Reichenau, opened around the turn of 1941/42, foreign, and in some cases domestic workers were imprisoned, along with a few Jewish prisoners and numerous political prisoners. A part of the at least roughly 8,600 prisoners was sent back to work after brutal measures and forced labor for businesses and the city of Innsbruck, 112 were killed and hundreds were transferred to concentration and extermination camps. On initiative of the "Bund der Opfer des politischen Freiheitskampfes" Tirol, the city of Innsbruck erected a memorial on National Day, created by the Viennese sculptor Franz Anton Coufal. Mayor Alois Lugger (ÖVP) unveiled it before hundreds of people. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the parish church St. Pirmin in Reichenau, in 2002 parish priest Franz Troyer created a city reflection path with a station at the Reichenau memorial.
