His deep conviction and the tenderness of his heart were expressed in a few poems dedicated to his homeland, freedom, and mother. Attached to his mother, he entrusted her with the news that a Spanish fighter had arrived at Pohorje, needing devoted people for battle. In November 1942, he joined the command of Fran Rozman-Stanec. He became a fighter of the Pohorje Battalion. On November 27, 1942, during a strong German offensive, he was wounded in the stomach, captured, and tortured. He was one of the first fighters of the Pohorje Battalion — a native of Mislinjska Valley.

Iz Ribnice na Pohorju peljemo 5 km proti Ribniški koči. Pri tabli KOČA PESNIK (Hudi kot 28) zavijemo desno in peljemo še 1 km po gozdni cesti, kjer je na levi strani v bregu spomenik. Spomenik je nad cesto sredi gozda, zato ga je težko najti.
