Avgust Greif - Blisk

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

The event took place when the I. Styrian battalion of November 1941 crossed the road Planina - Jurklošter during the Brežiški march.

As the battalion began to ascend the hill and the last fighters were still on the road, two German police trucks or Wermacht vehicles arrived from Jurklošter. They jumped out of their cars and from cover began to fire at the battalion's fighters, who, exhausted and with great effort, tried to move upwards in order to reach at least some cover, which the steep and poorly covered terrain offered. One of the fighters threw a bomb at the car, which somewhat confused the Germans. Meanwhile, Curk started shooting at them with a submachine gun. However, the fighters' escape was too slow. The southern snow and smooth slope prevented any grip. This snow was a real trap. To August Greif-Blisk, the snow slipped and he slid down the smooth wall, without being able to help himself, directly in front of the Germans. He threw a bomb among them and tried to run up the hill, but was shot by the German submachine gun.

The Švabi buried August Greif-Blisk, extremely dishonorably, immediately after the road. So much for the notice to those who now search and dig up various bones of the homeland fighters, ustašev, etc., and traitors, and to inform who started it and how one would act and feel if someone, who was a close relative, a fighter for liberation, at the age of 21, was shot and buried in a common ditch.
