The original monument was in the form of a sign, which was made by the blacksmith Ivan Čemažar, and painted by the teacher Ivan Prestor. This sign was placed by the local committee ZB NOV Žabnica and unveiled on 1. May 1947. The sign was later taken into possession by the Gorenjski Museum in Kranj. The sign is currently on display on the permanent exhibition Prelepa Gorenjska on the upper floor of the Khislstein Castle.
A natural rock with an engraved inscription was then placed. This monument was put up by the workers of the Tekstilindus factory in Kranj, and it was unveiled on 1. May 1961. The plans for it were drawn by the architect Nande Jocif.
In 1982, another renovation or addition to the monument followed. The current, renovated monument is made of concrete and represents a cenotaph of the fighters of the Selška četa Cankarjevega bataljona, at the site of the battle with the Germans on 27. March 1942, when out of twenty fighters, fifteen fell (among them Stane Žagar). The names of the fallen are written in metal letters.
From the monument, which stands on a platform, pressed with granite blocks, wide steps lead down to a terrace with two framed grave sites, located 20 m apart from each other.
DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS: The commemorative event is dedicated to a fierce battle, which took place on 27. March 1942 at this location by the Selška četa Cankarjevega bataljona. Due to the enemy's brutality and constant harassment, the unit left its territory in the Selška valley and withdrew to the slopes of the Mali Rovt under Planica. Here, the area and the unit, which numbered 32 partisans, set up an improvised camp. The host from Crngrob, however, informed the Germans of where the partisans were staying. Therefore, already on 27. March, powerful German forces (police and Gestapo) surrounded the camp.

Spomenik in kenotaf sta vzhodno od Planice, južno na pobočju Malega Rovta, nad potjo, ki vodi iz Crngroba na Planico in Lavtarski Vrh. Od osrednjega spomenika v Planici se peljemo po gozdni cesti proti vzhodu. Na njenem koncu je obračališče, od tam je še 70 m po kolovozu do spomenika. Tam kolovoz preide v pešpot, ki se začne strmeje spuščati. Približno 1000 m vzhodno od hiše Planica 14.
