Names of the Victims on the Concrete Coffin on the Site of the Concentration Camp Loibl-Nord

In 2018, the original foundations of the washhouse at the site of the former concentration camp Loibl-Nord were "sarcophagized" by the Interior Ministry through a concrete casing. This was meant to protect the ruins from weather influences, but at the same time, it made them invisible to visitors. Since most of the buildings on the site of the Loibl-Nord concentration camp were made of wood and lacked foundations, only the terraced slope of the terrain remained as traces of the former camp. Thus, the visible foundations of the washhouse were particularly significant for the on-site educational work. As a protest against the concrete casing and to use it as a site of remembrance, the Mauthausen Committee Carinthia sprayed the names of the victims murdered on-site during the international commemoration event at the former Loibl-Nord concentration camp in June 2021. These 39 individuals had died directly in the concentration camps Loibl-Nord and Loibl-Süd; however, the majority of the prisoners had been deported to the main camp Mauthausen for execution.
