Memorial Plate Bronislaw Huberman

On May 6, 2022, a memorial plaque was unveiled at the entrance façade of Schloss Hetzendorf. It commemorates the musician and humanist Bronislaw Huberman. The Jewish-Polish musician lived and worked in Schloss Hetzendorf from 1926 to 1936. He was an outstanding violin virtuoso and led a master class at the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts. He is regarded as an early advocate of a united Europe. His founding of the Palestine Orchestra, later known as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, is also described as visionary. Huberman saved the lives of numerous Jewish musicians and their families, protecting them from the Holocaust by enabling their journey to Palestine through engagements in his orchestra.
