Memorial Plate - Collection Site Hohe Warte 32

On September 12, 2014, a bronze plaque was installed on the façade of House Hohe Warte 32. The inscription recalls that from 1872 until 1939, the Israelitische Blindeninstitut with attached boarding school was located here. It was closed by the National Socialists, and most of the Jewish students were deported and murdered. The house then served as a residence for elderly and disabled Jewish people until 1942. From here, in the years 1941 and 1942, 219 Jewish women and men were deported and murdered in the Holocaust. Named are Jeanette Beer, Mina Hübler, Simon Lewit and Rudolf Grünwald. Mina Hübler (born Rotter) was deported to Theresienstadt on June 28, 1942, and murdered on September 3, 1942. Simon Lewit was deported to Theresienstadt on June 28, 1942, and murdered on August 13, 1942. Jeanette Beer was deported to Theresienstadt on June 28, 1942, and murdered on September 15, 1942. Rudolf Grünwald was deported to Maly Trostinec on June 9, 1942, and murdered there on June 15, 1942. Inside the building there is another memorial plaque for blind Jews who were persecuted.
