Emil Maurer Plaza

The Vienna Municipal Council for Culture and Science named the traffic area between the lanes on the Neubaugürtel in Vienna after the social democratic municipal politician and functionary of Jewish organizations Emil Maurer on November 26, 2013. Within the square, a park was laid out, which was also named after Emil Maurer. In May 2014, two signboards naming the park were erected, which also serve as commemorative signs. One stands at the southern and one at the northern end of the park. They address the persecution of Emil Maurer both during Austrofascism and under National Socialism. However, his deportation in 1938 to the concentration camp Dachau and subsequently to Buchenwald is omitted, making the "release" in 1939 misleading.
