Memorial Plaque Destruction of Jewish Community House and Hebrew Language School

On September 30, 2004, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in front of the house at Schottenfeldgasse 60, remembering the expelled Jews and Jewish women from the Neubau district as well as the Jewish community center (Beth Shul) of the Neubau Jewish Association Chewra Binjon Chudosch, which was located here and destroyed by the National Socialists during the November pogroms. The initiators did not receive permission from the homeowner to attach a commemorative plaque to the facade. Therefore, the installation was carried out with the approval of the city of Vienna several centimeters in front of the building, which had not been restituted. The plaque consists of a steel plate on which the text was engraved. With light shining on it, the text becomes visible on the house facade. Already in 1988, efforts were made to erect a commemorative plaque on the house's facade, but the homeowner did not agree.
