Gedenktafel Wilhelm Ellenbogen

At the Dr. Ellenbogen-Hof on Brigittenauer Lände 148-154, the city of Vienna installed a memorial plaque in September 1963 in memory of Wilhelm Ellenbogen, the namesake of the residential complex, the social democratic politician. Wilhelm Ellenbogen was threatened by the antisemitic policies of the National Socialists and had to flee to the USA in 1939. Already under the Austrofascist regime, Ellenbogen had lost his political functions as a member of the National Council and as a member of the party leadership of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP). In 1934, he was temporarily arrested. After 1945, he was unable to return to Vienna.
