On February 24, 2003, the Parliamentary Club of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) placed a memorial plaque on the facade next to the parliamentary entrance on Reichsratsstraße 2, remembering the Jewish social democrat and resistance fighter Otto Felix Kanitz. Kanitz was arrested by the Nazi regime in November 1940 and deported to the concentration camp Buchenwald, where he was murdered.
