Gedenktafel Oskar Grossmann

At the Großmannhof in the Denisgasse 39-41, the city of Vienna installed a memorial plaque for the namesake of the residential complex, the communist journalist and resistance fighter Oskar Großmann, in the year 1949. The journalist Oskar Großmann (also: Grossmann) was during the national socialist regime the political leader of the Austrian resistance fighters of the Communist Party of Austria in France. He edited the newspaper "Soldat am Mittelmeer," which conducted propaganda against National Socialism among German soldiers in southern France. The group around Großmann also participated in sabotage actions. In May 1944, Großmann was seriously injured and arrested by the Gestapo following a bomb explosion. His trail disappears in Lyon, where he was detained and tortured by the Gestapo.
