Memorial Plaque for Czech and Slovak Resistance Fighters

The memorial plaque for Czech and Slovak resistance fighters was installed on the facade of the building at Leibnizgasse 10 on May 7, 1955. The plaque lists 69 resistance fighters and victims of the Nazi regime from the Czech and Slovak minority in Vienna. The location where the plaque was affixed was Komenský-Schule.

In 1994, the plaque was replaced by a new one, but its content remained the same. The old plaque was made of white stone and consisted of a dedication in Czech and German, listing the 69 names in three columns. In the upper part of the plaque, there were two crossed flags as well as the red angle of the KZ-Association with the number "369". The old plaque can be viewed at the Favoriten District Museum.

The new plaque is made of black stone and has the same dedication, but lists the names in two columns. In the upper part of the plaque, there are again two crossed flags (flag of Czechoslovakia or Czech Republic and Austrian flag) as well as the red angle of the KZ-Association with the number "369". An additional name, Zimmel Bedrich (originally: Bedřich), was added to the list in 2010.
