Memorial Plaque for Fighters against Fascist Tyranny

The memorial plaque designed by sculptor Mario Petrucci was installed on the façade of the Fire Department headquarters at Am Hof 10 on October 26th or 27th, 1947. The plaque commemorates six members of the Vienna Fire Department who were victims of political violence: Georg Weissel was executed as a resistance fighter during Austrofascism in February 1934; Ludwig Ebhart, Rudolf Haider, Hermann Plackholm, Josef Schwaiger, and Johann Zak were executed as resistance fighters during the National Socialist regime. The plaque was funded by the Vienna City Fire Department, and its unveiling was carried out by the then mayor Theodor Körner. The monument is made of white stone with red lettering and includes a small sculpture of a beheaded, helmeted man, referring to the method of execution at the Vienna Regional Court.
