Memorial Plaque Aron Menczer

On November 9, 2011, a commemorative plaque was unveiled before the house at Marc-Aurel-Straße 5 in District 1, honoring educator Aron Menczer. Menczer was active from 1938 to 1941 for the Vienna Youth Aliyah School 'Jual'. The Youth Aliyah was a Zionist organization that brought many Jewish children abroad to protect them from being murdered by National Socialists. In 1942, Menczer was deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto and later to the extermination camp Auschwitz, where he was murdered in 1943. The plaque was designed by Alexander Kubik; it consists of an Israeli marble block encased in metal.
