Memorial Plate "Termination Reason Non-Aryan" - Strindberghof

At Strindberghof, located at Strindberggasse 1, a memorial plaque for Jewish tenants who were evicted by the National Socialists in 1938 was unveiled on September 22, 1999, as part of the project "Termination Reason: 'Non-Aryan'". The project "Termination Reason: 'Non-Aryan'" was carried out by the Volkshochschule Simmering under the leadership of Walter Schuster. The research into the eviction of Jewish tenants and tenants from the Vienna Gemeindebauten (public housing) during National Socialism in 1938 and 1939 was initiated by the archivist, librarian, and staff member at the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance, Herbert Exenberger, who published the study "Termination Reason: Non-Aryan. The Expulsion of Jewish Tenants from Vienna's Gemeindebauten in the Years 1938 and 1939" with Johann Koß and Brigitte Ungar-Klein in 1996. In 1999, an exhibition titled "Termination Reason: Non-Aryan" was shown at Bibliothek Wien 11. The project concluded with a "historical walking tour" through Simmering during which five memorial plaques were unveiled at Gemeindebauten.

Henriette Löwy (born October 16, 1884) and her husband Ludwig Löwy (born January 31, 1884) were deported to Minsk on October 5, 1942 and murdered there. Josef Neumann (born January 15, 1872) was deported to Litzmannstadt/Łódź on October 23, 1941 and died there on April 27, 1942. Gisela Tuschak (born August 5, 1887), along with her husband Hans Stefan Tuschak (born December 30, 1885) and their daughter Magdalena Tuschak (born September 1, 1922), were deported to Theresienstadt. Magdalena Tuschak was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp on October 5, 1943 and murdered there. Her parents were also deported to Auschwitz on October 6, 1944 and subsequently murdered.
