Memorial Plate "Reason for Dismissal: Non-Aryan" - Hof Rinnböckstraße

A memorial plaque for Paula Schein was likely unveiled in 2000 as part of the project "Kündigungsgrund: 'Nichtarier'" at the municipal apartment complex in Rinnböckstraße 21 in the district of Simmering, where she had been expelled by the National Socialists in 1938. The project "Kündigungsgrund: 'Nichtarier'" was conducted by the Volkshochschule Simmering under the leadership of Walter Schuster. The research into the expulsion of Jewish tenants from the Viennese Gemeindebauten under National Socialism in the years 1938 and 1939 was initiated by the archivist, librarian, and employee at the Documentation Center of the Austrian Resistance, Herbert Exenberger, who published the study "Kündigungsgrund Nichtarier. The Expulsion of Jewish Tenants from Viennese Gemeindebauten in the Years 1938 and 1939" together with Johann Koß and Brigitte Ungar-Klein in 1996. In 1999, the exhibition "Kündigungsgrund Nichtarier" was shown at Bibliothek Wien 11. The project was concluded with a "historical walk" through Simmering, during which five memorial plaques at Gemeindebauten were unveiled. The memorial plaque for Paula Schein was added later, as the apartment complex was renovated in 1999.
Paula Schein lived in Rinnböckstraße 21/2/7 until she was evicted. After being forcibly relocated to a flat in Pazmanitengasse 3 in the district of Leopoldstadt, she was deported to Theresienstadt on 22 July 1942 and transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp on 15 May 1944, where she was murdered.
