Memorial Stone for Six Resistance Fighters

A memorial stone was erected in 2000 on the site of a residential complex of the housing association "Wohnen und Bauen Gesellschaft mbH Wien" (BWSG) in Dieselgasse 5c, at the corner of Laxenburger Straße 131-135, commemorating six resistance fighters against National Socialism. They had been workers at the Steyr Daimler Puch AG's auto-repair plant, which had been located on this property. The construction worker Eduard Fritsch was shot dead in the Mauthausen concentration camp. Erwin Necas died in custody at the Vienna Land Court. The four other workers were beheaded at the Vienna Land Court. Background: In 1953, the KPÖ had attached a memorial plaque on the façade of the plant in memory of the six resistance fighters. In 1994, the BWSG purchased the area and demolished the plant. During this process, the memorial plaque was lost. The DÖW pointed out the loss of the plaque in 1998. The district office Favoriten sought to have a new memorial stone installed on the site. The inscription on the new memorial stone was slightly altered compared to the plaque. The term "Faschismus" was replaced by "Nationalsozialismus".
