Gedenkstein Franz Heckenast und Karl Burian

The Federal Ministry of Defense had a memorial stone for the officers Franz Heckenast and Karl Burian, who had been murdered by the Nazi regime as opponents, removed in 1991, re-erected in March 1995. The new installation was the result of an initiative by former prisoners of the concentration camp Buchenwald, where Franz Heckenast had been murdered. The cause gained support from the military commander of Vienna, Karl Semlitsch, and the head of the Army Materiel Office, Karl Becker. In 2010, the barracks were renamed the Heckenast-Burian Command Building and a memorial plaque for Franz Heckenast and Karl Burian was installed in the courtyard of the building.
