Peace Memorial

The Peace Memorial in the Parkanlage Guldengasse commemorates the takeover of power by the National Socialists and the "Anschluss" of Austria to national socialist Germany in March 1938. It was unveiled on March 16, 2009. The erection by the Bezirksvertretung Penzing is the result of an initiative by the Jungen ÖVP Penzing. It was implemented by female and male students of the Vocational School for Construction Trades in the 22nd district. The inscription conveys the perspective of the initiators on the historical events and quotes a stanza from the folk song "Die Gedanken sind frei".
