The naming of the square after the social democratic politician Robert Danneberg took place on February 15, 1949. In 1995, an explanatory plaque was installed. It explains that Robert Danneberg was deported by the NS regime to the concentration camp Auschwitz and murdered there. In 2022, a new supplementary plaque was produced, in which the information regarding Robert Danneberg's tenure as Landtagspräsident (1920–1932) was corrected.
