Erwin-Puschmann-Gasse

Erwin Puschmann was a communist resistance fighter who was condemned to death and executed by the NS regime. Already during the Austrofascism, Puschmann was several times imprisoned as a member of the banned KPÖ. When the National Socialists came to power, he fled to Yugoslavia in order to further the reconstruction of the KPÖ underground from there. Eventually, he himself returned to Vienna as a leading functionary and lived under an alias until he was betrayed and arrested. The NS judiciary charged him with "high treason" and sentenced him to death. He was executed in 1943 at the Vienna Regional Court.
