The memorial stone recalls Mexico's protest against the "violent annexation" of Austria to the German Reich in March 1938. It was erected by the city of Vienna in 1985 on the Mexikoplatz in the 2nd district. The square had already been renamed from the same reason in 1956 as Mexikoplatz. The monument bears an inscription in German and Spanish.
