Memorial for ten Resistance fighters

A memorial for ten resistance fighters against the NS regime was erected as early as October 30, 1945, on the grounds of the Municipal Gasworks in Vienna-Simmering. On October 25, 1968, it was replaced by a new memorial. The multi-part monument is dedicated to ten resistance fighters who were murdered by the NS regime. The places of execution or death are the Vienna Land Court, Hadersdorf am Kamp, and the prison Stein an der Donau. The memorial was funded by the works council of the Vienna Gasworks. It was designed by Franz Schubert, who himself was a worker at the gasworks. The ensemble consists of a male figure bound with iron chains to a wall, which is a replica of the coat of arms of the city of Vienna. Above the martyr figure, the years „1938 / 1945“ are inscribed. On a stone block beside it, the names of the honored individuals are listed. Additional symbols are the coat of arms of the Republic of Austria and a sacrificial bowl. The site is in the possession of the company Wiener Netze GmbH. Access to the memorial is possible upon prior registration with Wiener Netze.
