Memorial for Emil König, Heinrich Lochner, Maximilian Schrems, Hedwich Urach

On the grounds of the Straßenbahn-Betriebsbahnhof Speising in District 13, there is a memorial for four executed victims of the NS regime: Hedy (Hedwig) Urach, Emil König, Heinrich Lochner, and Max Schrems. The commemorative site was opened on November 9, 1947. It came into existence through the initiative of employees of the operation depot. The memorial consists of a black granite plaque with gold inscriptions mounted on a wall, along with two laurel wreaths surrounding the years 1938 and 1945. Hedy Urach and Max Schrems were executed by guillotine at the Landesgericht Wien, Emil König in Brandenburg-Görden, and Heinrich Lochner in Berlin-Charlottenburg for political offenses. All four had been active in the resistance against the NS regime as members of the illegal KPÖ (Communist Party of Austria). Emil König, Heinrich Lochner, and Max Schrems were streetcar workers; Hedy Urach was a factory worker and childminder.
