Memorial to the Victims of Fascism

The memorial "Den Opfern des Faschismus" was erected on November 2, 1949, on the premises of the Siemens Machine Factory in the 21st district. At that time, a air-raid shelter from the NS regime was converted into a "memorial site for the martyrs of the Siemens works." The memorial lists the names and dates of death of eighteen employees who were executed by the NS judiciary. At an unknown time (after 1998, likely during the renovation or reconstruction of the company's headquarters), the structural base and location of the memorial were altered: the original air-raid shelter was demolished, and the inscription was instead placed on a new concrete wall, while the ensemble of the memorial was preserved. The founder of the original memorial was the works council of the Siemens Machine Factory and the Vienna Cable and Metal Works.
