Audioguide Bethaus Storchengasse

On November 21, 2009, the "Audioguide Wien 15 Orte erinnern – Menschen erzählen. Die Geschichte einer jüdischen Vorstadtgemeinde" was presented. At fifteen stations in the district of Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, plaques recall Jewish life and its destruction by the NS regime. The station in front of house Storchengasse 21 is dedicated to the synagogue, which was located here until its destruction during the November pogroms. Due to its immediate proximity to other buildings, the synagogue was not burned down. In 1950, the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde regained possession of the building. At this station, eyewitnesses Anny Götzler, Stella Finkelstein, Eric Sanders, Haya Izhaki and Ernst Stern illuminate the history of the synagogue, its destruction and the use of the building by the Zionist youth movement Haschomer Hatzair.
