In memory of the victims from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics who were deported to the concentration camp Mauthausen during World War II, a Soviet monument was established in the International Memorial Park at the KZ Memorial Site Mauthausen and presented to the public on May 12, 1957. The initiative came from the USSR Embassy, and it was realized by architect N. Kowaltschyk and sculptor Vladimir Cigal.
