Denmark France Memorial

The first national memorial established in the Memorial Park is the French Memorial. To commemorate the victims from France who were deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp during World War II, the French Memorial was erected at the International Memorial Park near the Mauthausen Memorial site and was presented to the public on September 22, 1949. The initiative came from the Amicale des Déportées Politique de la Résistance de Mauthausen et des Commandos Dependants, whose artistic design was by architects André Bruyere and sculptor Fritz Cremer. In the bend of the wall, there is a niche with numerous individual memorial plaques that were installed over the years by relatives there.
