In memory of the victims from the German Democratic Republic who were deported to the concentration camp Mauthausen during the Second World War, the DDR memorial was erected in the international memorial park at the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial site and was presented to the public on 05.05.1967. The initiative was taken by the committee of the Antifascist Resistance Fighters in the German Democratic Republic, and the artistic design was created by K. Tausendschön, the sculptor Fritz Cremer, and the Buchenwald collective.
