In memory of the victims from the Federal Republic of Germany who were deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp during World War II, the BRD memorial was erected in the international memorial park at the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial site and was presented to the public in 1983. The initiative was taken by the Federal Republic of Germany, and the artistic design is the work of the sculptor Fritz Koenig.
