Memorial "Russenfriedhof" for 3,600 Russian and Serbian prisoners along with memorial stones

At the so-called "Russenfriedhof," 3,549 Soviet prisoners of war and civilians are buried in two mass graves and five individual graves. This cemetery today hosts various memorials. 51 Yugoslav prisoners of war and civilians were also buried here after the end of World War II. The exact time of the construction of the Soviet memorials and gravestones is no longer known – but can be dated to the period between 1945 and 1949. In 1969, the property of the camp cemetery was sold to the Federal Ministry of Construction and Technology. A redesign of the cemetery took place in 1973. During this process, the remaining grave mounds of the Soviet section were levelled and the different memorial signs of the Yugoslav section were removed to make way for a central memorial stone. The names of 45 men are inscribed on it. Today, the administration of this site is the responsibility of the Interior Ministry and the Federal Real Estate Corporation, while the Black Cross is responsible for the maintenance of the site.
