Ernst-Stoiber-Weg

In addition to a Stolperstein in the city of Salzburg, the Ernst-Stoiber-Weg in the district of Maxglan also remembers the Salzburg railway worker who was murdered by the National Socialists due to his engagement in the Communist Youth. Born on 10 May 1922 in Salzburg, Ernst-Paul Stoiber was the son of Franziskas and Michaels Stoiber. He was a member of the Social Democratic Workers' Party, as well as the Free Trade Union and the Republican Protection League, until these were banned in 1934 by the Austrofascist regime. The trained carpenter was friends with the resistance fighter Franz Ofner as well as the resistance fighter Rosa Hofmann. When in 1942 the Salzburg resistance cells and networks were dismantled, the Gestapo also arrested Ofner, Hofmann and Stoiber, who was held in the city of Salzburg police prison. Stoiber was to be brought to the Gestapo headquarters for interrogation on 24 April 1942, but he jumped from the second floor, surviving seriously injured. In November of the same year, the "People's Court" sentenced him to death for "preparation of high treason". Ernst-Paul Sto,iber was beheaded in Munich-Stadelheim on 10 June 1943.
