Memorial Stone for Rosa Hofmann in Stölzlpark

In the Stölzlpark in the Salzburg district of Maxglan is today the memorial to the women's resistance, commemorating 18 Salzburg women who had to pay with their lives for their struggle against National Socialism. This memorial is an extension of the already unveiled in 1947 and still preserved memorial stone for the resistance fighter Rosa Hofmann. The 1919 born seamstress near Linz took over the leadership of a communist youth group in 1941. Only a year later, the Gestapo, through the use of an informant, disbanded numerous Salzburg resistance groups, arrested their members and condemned most of them to death. Rosa Hofmann, who was actively involved, was also executed on 9 March 1943 in Berlin-Plötzensee. In addition to the memorial stone and its extension, a Stolperstein and a commemorative plaque today remember the life and work of the 23-year-old Salzburg woman who was murdered.
