Memorial Plaque for Josef Reischenböck

In the Salzburg Andrae quarter, today there is a marble commemorative plaque on the facade of the Campus Mirabell Secondary School honoring the resistance fighter Josef Reischenböck. The memorial site, dedicated on May 20, 1999, commemorates the former teacher who was recruited by the KPÖ in 1941 and joined the fight against Nazism. This case of resistance is particularly striking because the devout Catholic Reischenböck was a member of the Vaterländische Front between 1933 and 1938 due to his political stance. Due to his political orientation, he was dismissed as director after the "Anschluss," but continued to work as a teacher. For writing leaflets and calling for armed resistance against the Nazi regime, Reischenböck was arrested in March 1942 and sentenced to death in October. His execution took place on May 7, 1943.
