Memorial plaque at former Rosenfeld Mill in Neusiedl am See

In September 2023, a memorial plaque was installed at the initiative of John Dutton, the grandson of Rosa and Jakob Rosenfeld, at the former family home of the Rosenfelds, located at Untere Hauptstraße 47 in Neusiedl am See.
Rosa and Jakob Rosenfeld operated a steam mill in Neusiedl am See since 1925, which, like the rest of their property, was seized by the Gestapo in Eisenstadt after the Anschluss in March 1938. Subsequently, it was transferred to an „Ariseur“.
The Rosenfeld family had to leave Neusiedl am See after the National Socialists came to power. They fled via Vienna to Hungary, where they were arrested in 1944 and deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Rosa Rosenfeld and her daughter Eva survived the concentration camp imprisonment, while Jakob Rosenfeld died in the concentration camp Dachau.
