Monument on Former Jewish Cemetery in Großpetersdorf

Unfar from the train station in Großpetersdorf, beside a camping site, a memorial stone has been located since 2002, testifying to the former Jewish cemetery. This cemetery was laid out by the resident Jewish community in 1895. After the expulsion of the Jews from Großpetersdorf by the National Socialists in 1938, the cemetery was destroyed and the remains of the Großpetersdorfer Jews were transferred to the Jewish cemetery in Oberwart. Following the "Aryanization," the area of the former cemetery was sold, the land levelled, and used as a campsite. The gravestones were sold by the National Socialists as building material to a stone masonry firm and other private individuals.
