Memorial for Hans Sylvester in Eisenstadt

On April 5, 1981, the "Hans Sylvester Memorial Stone" was unveiled on initiative of the ÖVP Fellowship of Persecuted Politicians in Eisenstadt, near the Burgenland State House. The memorial stone, a calcareous limestone inscribed with an inscription and a bronze plate, was revealed there. Dipl. Ing. Hans Sylvester served as Landeshauptmann (State Chancellor) of Burgenland from 1934 to 1938. Upon the Nazi seizure of power on March 11, 1938, he was arrested and subsequently deported to the concentration camp Dachau, where he died on January 19, 1939. Due to construction work, the monument had to be removed in December 2016 and reinstalled on the nearby "Ing. Hans Sylvester Street."
