Dr.-Granig-Gasse Klagenfurt/Celovec

As part of a council resolution from 1987, the name of a lane in the Klagenfurt district of Welzenegg was decided to be changed to Dr.-Granig-Gasse in honor of Anton Granig.
Anton Granig was born in 1901 in the community of Großkirchheim in the Mölltal. He was ordained a priest in 1932. During the National Socialism, he was one of the key figures of the 1942 founded resistance movement "Antifaschistische Freiheitsbewegung Österreich". In the middle of 1943, this movement was uncovered and Anton Granig was arrested. In a trial before the People's Court, he was sentenced to death and on 15 April 1945, together with 43 other people, was shot dead in the prison Stein an der Donau in Lower Austria. In Carinthia, there are several memorials dedicated to Anton Granig, including a memorial plaque at the church of Sagritz near his home village Mitten im Mölltal.
