Memorial plaque for Priest Anton Granig at the Parish Church of Sagritz

Anton Granig was born in 1901 in Mitten, a district of the municipality of Großkirchheim in the Mölltal. In 1932, the farmer's son was ordained as a priest. During the National Socialism, he was one of the key figures of the 1942 founded resistance movement "Antifaschistische Freiheitsbewegung Österreich". In the middle of 1943, this movement was uncovered and Anton Granig was arrested. In a trial before the People's Court, he was sentenced to death and on April 15, 1945, together with 43 other people, was shot dead in the prison Stein an der Donau in Lower Austria. To the right of the wall next to the church entrance of the parish church Sagritz, there is a memorial plaque in memory of Anton Granig. Furthermore, since 1987, a street in the Klagenfurt district of Welzenegg is named after Dr. Anton Granig.
