Memorial in Memory of the Deportation of Carinthian Slovenes at Aichwaldsee/Dobniško jezero

On the 80th anniversary of the forced resettlement of Carinthian Slovenes, a monument designed by Valentin Oman was unveiled on April 15, 2022, in the community of Finkenstein/Bekštanj. It is located on a parking lot along the main street between the settlements of Latschach and Unteraichwald with a view of the Aichwaldsee, initiated by the local Slovene Cultural Society Jepa-Baško jezero. In April 1942, without warning, 25 Carinthian-Slovene families were taken from their homes and deported via Klagenfurt to forced labor camps after a layover. Their names are inscribed on two black steles that rise from a pedestal. Between them stands a white marble stele with an upper break, topped by a metal sculpture also created by Valentin Oman.
