Anton-Falle-Straße, Drobollach am Faaker See/Drobolje pri Baškem jezeru

Anton Falle was born on March 25, 1886, in Rajach im Bezirk Villach Land. The Carinthian Slovene spent his youth as a farmhand before finding work on the construction of the Karawankenbahn and coming into contact with the Social Democratic movement there. Periods of unemployment alternated with various occupations, politically he became active in the Social Democratic Workers' Party and was their district party secretary from 1918 to 1921, and a National Council representative thereafter. Between 1927 and 1934, he served as the state party chairman of the Social Democratic Workers' Party in Carinthia. Following February 12, 1934, Anton Falle attempted to organize socialist resistance against Austrian fascism; he was arrested and sentenced to a year of heavy imprisonment. After Austria's annexation by the German Reich, he refrained from opposition activity but was nevertheless deported to concentration camp Dachau after the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler in 1944. There, Anton Falle died on January 15, 1945. In 1978, a street in Drobollach am Faaker See was named after him.
