Memorial Cross at the Cemetery Lamm/Lom

Behind the Church of Lamm on the cemetery wall, there is a memorial cross for five civilian victims who were murdered during a massacre at the Spitzbauern farm in Lamm on 17 October 1944 (the memorial cross incorrectly states 17 September 1944). On this day, a large group of partisans and escaped forced laborers from the Glimmerbergwerk St. Leonhard were staying on the farm, as well as family members and people from the neighborhood. It appears that the resistance group on the Spitzbauern farm was betrayed to the police, and the farm was attacked and set on fire. Numerous people died in the incident; the number of victims reported varies between 33 and 55. The majority of the victims are buried in St. Ruprecht near Völkermarkt. The five civilian victims among the deceased were buried in the Lamm cemetery.
